Reading Memory

June 27th, 2009 | Posted by pftq in Blabberbox | #

First Image of Memory Being Made - I completely mistook the headline for implying that memory can be translated to an image (photo, scan).  For a moment, I thought we’d actually be able to scan our minds soon and save images off of them. :P

Guess that’s a little bit further in the future since they’re just now figuring out what memory in the brain even looks like (not the memory itself but the part of the brain that holds the memory - which isn’t really what the memory looks like but the memory container looks like… kinda like memory cards I guess - ack, confusing terms!).  I guess perhaps in the short term future, we can look forward more on learning to increase our memory or enhance.

Maybe one day we can buy extra proteins to enlarge our memory capabilities! :D (though I wouldn’t want a bigger head as a result of it)

Still, I’d really like to be able to make any image or sound just by thinking it - actually have some machine read the memory off my mind.  That would be useful…

Losing work over something stupid is like dying abruptly because you forget to eat.

VCR/VHS Resources

June 17th, 2009 | Posted by pftq in 42 | #

Maintaining or obtaining the VCR and VHS, for whatever purposes…
Yes, VHS is dead technology, but for various reasons, some might want to keep the tape and machine. A few might even want to obtain them. You might want a VCR spare to watch really old tapes, or you might want to start converting tapes and still need the VCR to do it. Good VCRs are becoming harder to come by, so it’s ever more important to keep whatever ones you have in working condition - same goes for tapes, especially if you recorded them yourself.
Below are possible links to check out if you want to obtain or maintain your VCR and tapes, as well as other links related.

Three Years Past

June 12th, 2009 | Posted by pftq in Stories | #
A freshman boy walks down the school hallway eating a cup of ice cream he got from across the street.  While walking, he suddenly looks up from his ice cream to realize his surroundings look different.  It's the same location with some things altered, perhaps looking older or worn out.  He eventually realizes he has ended up 3 years into the future.
His friends tell him he's crazy.  When the boy tries to use his ice cream as proof, they tell him he just got it from across the street.  Defeated, the boy just accepts his situation for the time being.
His learning is accelerated and he quickly adapts to his new life.  He seems to learn things instantaneously sometimes (such as math) even though he doesn't remember having been good at it before.  One day his friends bug him about the ice cream again and the boy gets irritated.  The boy suddenly shouts, "How could I have gotten the ice cream...[More]

Pocket Projectors

June 1st, 2009 | Posted by pftq in Blabberbox | #

I guess I’m getting a bit behind these days.  I was just joking a few weeks ago about the possibility of having “pocket projectors” in the future.  Turns out they already have them! So tiny too - I can’t believe it. :P

  Example:

Castrade Mini-LED Projector

 Castrade Mini-LED Projector

Can’t believe something like that even exists.  It might even be smaller than the mini speakers I have.  Unfortunately, the pricetag is over $200… just a tad too expensive.  Maybe when they start making them for under $100… and maybe if the lightbulbs were replacable. :P

As usual, adding this to my list of interesting gadgets and tech to buy.  Always looking for interesting stuff like this - anyone feel free to send me items as well!

Tools to sort, rename, and organize your files...

Seems like the operating system would be best for managing your files, but this isn't always the case.  Several times, I'd want to rename a whole batch of files, or maybe I'd want to fix the creation times of my pictures.  As usual, the free stuff is always best - there's no reason to buy bloated software for essential needs as these.  Below are the best I've found.  Feel free to suggest more.
